Aspects Description of the impacts
Construction or operation of factories, mines, and transportation infrastructure Forestry operations require the construction and maintenance of rural roads. To support these activities, the Company has established procedures that define best practices aimed at mitigating the environmental impacts associated with these operations. In specific cases, monitoring tools developed by the Environmental area are used to strengthen the oversight and management of these interventions.
Pollution (introduction of substances that are not naturally present in the habitat, originating from both point and non-point sources). Each year, a multidisciplinary team reviews the document on the Socio-environmental Aspects and Impacts associated with forestry operations. The document identifies potential socio-environmental impacts and the corresponding mitigation measures, helping ensure that operational practices remain aligned with the Company's environmental guidelines. In addition, an Environmental and Social Risk Analysis (ESRA) is conducted for all agricultural pesticides used by the Company, ensuring a systematic assessment of risks and compliance with applicable legal and environmental requirements.
Introduction of invasive species, pests and pathogens The Company exclusively uses exotic species for commercial forestry plantations. However, native species are used in ecological restoration projects to ensure that restored areas are consistent with the local vegetation and ecological conditions.
Furthermore, the Company maintains dedicated teams responsible for controlling invasive alien species outside production areas, with a primary focus on Conservation Areas. This helps preserve the ecological integrity of these environments and prevent adverse impacts on biodiversity.
Reduction in species Specialized consultants are engaged in conducting periodic flora and fauna surveys to assess potential environmental changes resulting from the Company's forestry management practices. To date, the results have not identified any adverse changes in the parameters evaluated, demonstrating the effectiveness of the environmental management practices in place.
Habitat conversion This does not apply, except in cases where planted forests are converted into areas designated for conservation. Such conversions may be undertaken to restore ecological functions, enhance the effectiveness of ecological corridors, and improve water resource management.
Changes in ecological processes beyond their natural range of variation (e.g., changes in salinity or groundwater levels). The concept of water stewardship (“water solidarity”) has been implemented across the Company's forestry operations. This approach considers the water requirements of forests throughout their entire production cycle and assesses water availability within each catchment to ensure that water use does not adversely affect neighboring communities. Accordingly, sufficient water availability must be maintained for planted forests, natural ecosystems, and surrounding communities alike. In addition, the Company adopts a mosaic landscape approach to forest management, integrating native forest conservation areas with planted forests. This approach promotes ecological connectivity through the establishment of ecological corridors while contributing to soil conservation and the protection of water resources.

Affected species In the context of forest management, the primary adverse impact on native flora is competition for light and nutrients caused by the encroachment of exotic species into native vegetation areas. This can hinder the growth of native species and alter the ecological dynamics of these ecosystems. Conversely, forest management also generates positive impacts, particularly by enhancing connectivity between native habitat remnants. Increased connectivity facilitates wildlife movement and seed dispersal, supporting ecological processes and contributing to biodiversity conservation.
Extent of impacted areas All the wood used in Klabin's pulp and paper production is certified and sourced from controlled pine and eucalyptus plantations established exclusively for this purpose. In addition, 41% of the Company's forest land is dedicated to biodiversity conservation and the protection of native ecosystems. The Company adopts a mosaic forest management approach, integrating planted forests with conserved native forests. This strategy enhances ecological connectivity, optimizes land use, and supports the protection of water resources.
